Driving out of the dealership with a brand new car is a good feeling. That feeling might wade off and give room for anxiety and sadness when you damage your vehicle or its factory paint fades and starts looking unpleasant. Protecting the car's paint from fading or damage from minor scratches and other external contaminants is therefore paramount. The trick is to use top-quality car paint protection options, which are essential in ensuring that the car's painted surface retains its texture, quality, and shine. Car wax, ceramic coating, vinyl wraps, paint sealants, and car paint protection films are some of the things that can be used.
The option that you choose for your car depends on the cost, durability, and installation time. It is important to talk to your favorite exterior detailing shop or paint protection expert about the options to figure out what is best for your car's paint protection.
Paint Protection Film is one of the most common automotive paint protection options. Paint Protection Film (PPF), or Clear Bra, is a clear, self-healing polyurethane film that protects your car's surface from light scratches, road debris, bird droppings, bug splatter, and rock chips that come into contact with your car when you drive off-road or drive it in harsh conditions.
Installing automotive paint protection film needs a keen eye and steady hands. Contracting a professional to help install paint protection film over your car's paint is highly advisable. The main reason for asking for professional help is to ensure that the film sits nicely on the vehicle's surface by providing no air between the film and the paint underneath. This approach ensures that the film lasts longer once installed.
You will start by cleaning the vehicle surface and ensuring the entire vehicle is clean and free of dirt before installing PPF. A clean surface is easy to work with and offers little resistance while spreading the protective paint film. It's also important to fix any paint problems before applying the film, so you don't have to put it on again.
Identify the side of the paint protection film with the adhesive. Ordinarily, this is the side that will be in contact with the car's surface. Once you identify the side with adhesive, get your fitting solution and apply some of it to your fingers before removing the wrapper covering the sticky side. Using the fitting solution on your fingers will ensure that the adhesive doesn't stick to your fingers as you work. As you peel off the thin layer of protective film covering the sticky side, generously apply the fitting solution to the sticky side.
Take note that you will need to work fast as you apply paint protection film to ensure that the sticky side does not dry before installation. It, therefore, pays to have all the tools and materials necessary for this task close to you before you start.
Place the paint protection film on the car surface with the adhesive side touching it and adjust its position to fit the area you wish to cover. If the position is satisfactory, apply the fitting solution of the paint protection film and use a squeegee to push out any air bubbles trapped underneath. Let the different pieces of protective paint film take the smooth and natural shape of the car.
Once the clear paint protection film fits nicely on the whole car and other vulnerable areas like door handles, the technician will use a heat blower to ensure the film firmly adheres to the surface. Let the car rest in a shaded area for a while to let the film settle and stick properly to the surface. Once done, you will realize that the film blends well with the car's paint, and to the naked eye, it might be difficult to distinguish the film from the paintwork.
